Police officer testifies in assault case

Musa Janneh, a police officer, Monday testified in the assault case involving one Lamin SaidyKhan at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Abeke.

Designated as the first prosecution witness (PW1), officer Janneh told the court he is 1st Class 2734 attached to PIU Senegambia and that he recoganised the accused person.

He recalled 21 March 2013 when he was on duty at his guard post, ITC checkpoint, he received a telephone call from his colleague, one Mamud Sarjo, informing him that there was a boy at the Bijilo Forest Park who wanted to burn the forest.

He said Sarjo further told him he wanted to arrest him but the boy refused and was holding an axe.

According to him, upon his arrival, he talked to the accused that they could go to the police station, but the accused still refused, adding that there was push and pull.

He said the accused eventually knocked him on his nose and as a result, he started bleeding, adding that he went to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital where he was treated and later made a statement at the police station.

The case was then adjourned till 27 April 2013.
