Personal hygiene

Aug 23, 2010, 2:24 PM

The 7th edition of the Oxford Advanced Learners Dictionary describes "Hygiene" as the practice of keeping yourself and your living and working areas clean in order to prevent illness and disease.

Good personal hygiene is critical to one's health and well-being. Taking the time to properly groom yourself will help you avoid illness, as well as help you achieve social interaction.

Cleanliness is imperative to a healthy lifestyle. The germs and bacteria that you may come in contact with on a daily basis can be detrimental to health and, as such, it is imperative that one observes the best personal hygienic practices on a daily basis.

Hygiene is important in relationships, for work, and to function in society in general.

While parents are obliged to teach their children proper hygiene, some of them neglect to give them adequate attention, particularly during the summer season.

As a result, some of them are seen in stagnant pools of water, whenever there is a heavy downpour.

It is in this regard that we commend the Kanifing Municipal Council Disaster Management Committee for organising a day-long sensitisation for the people of Jeshwang on best hygienic practices in flood related cases.
