PEF observes World Peace Day

Peace and Education Foundation (PEF), a Community Based Organisation, recently joined the rest of the world to commemorate World Peace Day at the Brikama Upper Basic School.

Speaking at the celebration, Mr Lamin S.T Jammeh, Secretary General of the foundation said PEF was established for the promotion of peace, education and health in our society. The foundation, he added, is a charitable, Non-Governmental Organisation advocating for societal integration and solidarity of people through the organisation and co-ordination of activities that will enhance people's awareness about the values of peace, education and health.

He stated that the commemoration geared towards enhancing public awareness about the value of peace, education and health as a means of attaining sustainable socio- economic development of any nation. "The significance of world peace day cannot be over emphasized. To some, its just a single day but for Peace and Education Foundation, the day is a 24 hours long platform for life-saving activities around the world and an opportunity for individuals particularly young people to become involve in the peace process," he added.

Mr Jammeh challenged fellow members of PEF and Gambian youths in particular to safe guard the peace the Gambia is known for, noting that peace is a commodity that no nation can buy thus the need for it to be protected by all and sundry. 

According to him, PEF will continue to strive for the maintenance of peace in communities with the support of their partner institutions.

"Our tradition and culture should be seen as an ingredient to propagate the value of peace in our dynamic society," he said, adding that these connect us together as one family.

Other speakers at the commemoration include Mr Abdoulie Ndow, Chairman of PEF who advised the students to maintain peace within their environment and change their attitudes toward society.
