The Belgian tactician Paul Putt who is on a four-year contract with the Scorpions last summer, thanks to the government intervention following the expiration of the one-year contract he signed with Africell is planning to organise two international friendly games for the senior national team, if he comes to agreement with the FA.
Paul who has failed in his attempt to lead the country to its first-ever African nation's and the World Cups in South Africa and Angola, respectively told our reporter in this interview that he is in talks with the Gambia Football Association in a bid to engage the Scorpions in two international friendly matches against Angola and the African Champions Egypt in January.
"I am doing everything possible to see how best I can come to agreement with the GFA pertaining to the involvement of the national team in two friendly internationals against Angola in January 3rd in Portugal and Egypt either in Cairo or Dubai three days later but I am aware of the fact that finance is not there but I will keep fighting to make sure the team is given strong preparation ahead of next year?s African nations cup qualifiers and the World Cup in 2014 and my dream is to quality the team to the highest competition," the ambitious Belgian tactician told our reporter on Wednesday.
Paul further spoke of his ambition to guide The Gambia to the Olympics in London in 2012. But he said he is aware of the fact that better preparation must be given to the team so as to realise his ambition in raising the standards of the Gambian football to the highest level.
"The FA is trying everything possible to make sure these friendly games are possible and we want to talk to the government of The Gambia to make our intention known to them regarding the friendly matches so that they can also intervene," Paul highlighted.
The President of the Gambia football association Seedy M.B Kinteh who confirmed the story to Pointsport yesterday revealed that the FA received an invitation from the Angolan Football Federation through their agent on Thursday for a friendly game slated for the first week of January in Portugal but the FA is working on the modalities to be confirm during the weekend.
He further added that the Egyptian Football Association also requested to have a friendly international game against the Scorpions but they are yet to reach an agreement.
