Passamai smash Red Stars to clinch 1st trophy in Gunjur

Passamai on Saturday beat Red Stars 5-4 on penalty shootout, after the regulation time ended 1-all in the knockout final game played at the Gunjur Nyamina football field to lift their first-ever trophy in Gunjur’s summer biggest football fray.

Both sides made a slow start to the game and created few goal-scoring opportunities but the first half ended blank.

Passamai opened the scores through pacey Winger Simon Bass aka chanka few minutes after the interval from a superb striker to give his side the lead.

Red Stars fought back and levelled the score through midfielder Mbemba Fatty aka Iniesta in the dying minutes of the game to cancel Simon Bass aka Chanka’s opener to make it 1-all.

This pushed the game into a penalty shootout, which ended 5-4 in favour of Passsamai.

As champions, Passamai went home with a giant trophy and cash prize of D9,000, whilst Red Stars received D6,000 as runners-up.

The kick-off was taken by Abdou Sarr Janneh, a former YSB FC centre-back currently residing in the United Kingdom accompanied by his teammates - goalkeeper Sajo Badjie and Malang Jassey.
