Pa Suwareh Faye, who resigned as president of the Gambia Football Coaches Association (GFCA) in March, was yesterday re-elected as president of the association in absentia at a congress held at the Independence Stadium Friendship Hostel Hall in Bakau.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of the president, Mafugi Jatta, 1st vice president of the association, began by expressing appreciation with the former interim executive led by Pa Samba Mbenga for their efforts.
He added that the newly elected executive have a huge task ahead of them but that he believes they will succeed if they work as a team.
Kebba Masanneh Ceesay, assistant technical director of the Gambia Football Association (GFA) Normalisation Committee, said the importance of the association cannot be overemphasised and challenged the newly elected executive to work hard to move the association forward.
He also called on them to encourage other coaches to join the association, saying coaches should not be seen as masses for their clubs and should be encouraged and protected as partners by the association.
He also appealed for unity among the executive and members of the association.
Pa Samba Mbenga, outgoing acting-president of the interim executive committee of the GFCA, gave the activity report of the association since they took over.
Tapha Manneh, acting-secretary general, and Mustapha Jammeh, assistant treasurer, both of the outgoing interim executive committee, gave their respective reports.
The newly elected executive committee that are tasked to steer the affairs of the GFCA for the next four years are as follows: Pa Suwareh Faye- president, Mafugi Jatta- 1st vice president, Kebba Touray – 2nd vice president, Ebrima Manneh - secretary general, Tida Touray - assistant secretary general, Desamba Mbenga - treasurer, Mustapha Jammeh - assistant treasurer, Alagie Bai Ndongo Drammeh - liaison officer/PRO, and Hasatou Jallow - Internal Auditor.
