Magistrate Babucarr Secka of the Brikama Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Abdoulie Jallow to a fine of D3, 000, in default to serve six months in prison for stealing two bags of oranges.
The facts of the case as narrated by prosecutor 1st Class Cham, revealed that it happened on 17th March 2010 when the convict, Abdoulie Jalloe was found between Siffoe and Brikama with two bags of oranges.
He narrated that the convict had stopped a taxi to carry the oranges, when the driver suspected that the bags of oranges might be stolen properties.
1st Class Cham further narrated that, the taxi driver confronted the convict as to where he bought the oranges and he responded that he bought it from a watchman at the complainant's garden.
He said both the complainant and the watchman were invited and the complainant told the police that he had never authorised anybody to sell his oranges, while the watchman too denied selling the oranges to the convict.
Subsequently, he said the convict who later confessed of committing the crime was arrested, cautioned and charged with the offence committed.
