In recognition of his valuable contribution to the development of Operation No Back Way to Europe (ONBE), former Interior Minister Ousman Sonko was recently honoured by the social and humanitarian youth organisation.

The group last week presented a certificate of appreciation to the former minister now Gambian Ambassador to Venezuela, at a ceremony held at Ghana Town, Brufut.

The certificate was received on his behalf by Dr Mamadou Tangara, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad.

Speaking on the award ceremony, Lamin Corra, a member of the group based in Spain, used the opportunity to discourage youth from embarking on such journeys to Europe.

According to him, those who normally take the back way to Europe do not only loose their wealth but some times even their lives.

For her part, Awa Jobarteh said that Hon. Sonko was very committed and supportive of the ONBE.

According to her, the former minister used to give them a lot of support, while commending President Jammeh for donating to them a vehicle in the year 2007.

Mr. Tangara finally thanked the organization for appreciating Hon. Sonko’s efforts and further thanked the President for supporting the organization.
