The Olympic Day Run has been a firm pillar of sport celebrated throughout the world. It is the biggest mass sport in the world organised to commemorate the founding of the modern Olympic Movement (IOC).
Olympic Day is a great opportunity for people around the world to experience the Olympic values and live the Olympic experience outside Games times.
The Gambia National Olympic Committee as ambassador of the Olympic Movement in The Gambia will celebrate the day on 23 June 2012 with activities such as 5km road race for school children, volleyball and handball galas. We expect most of the schools in the Greater Banjul Area to participate in the celebration, with a total of about 1000 participants for the different activities expected at Serekunda East Mini Stadium starting at 9am
VIPs, teachers, parents and students of various schools will attend to give support to their athletes and teams. At the end of the activities, certificates will be given to all the participants.
Similar runs will be held at the Olympafrica Centres in Farafenni, Kaur, and Bulock.
