The
Alkalo of Old, Yundum, Mahmoud Fye, and the village development committee have
appealed to the management of the Brikama Area Council to assist the village
with 3,000 litres of fuel.
The
village needed the fuel to rehabilitate a 2km road from Coastal Road Junction
through Old Yundum to Dairu Busumbala.
Alkalo
Fye said already, the community has secured 150 trips of gravel duty free from
the Department of Geology with the help of Brikama Area Council.
“Our
concern and constraint at the moment is how to transport the gravel from the
quarry to the construction site; we don’t have fuel and truck,” he explained.
He
pointed out that it is important to have that road rehabilitated because it is
the one used by women, including pregnant and lactating mothers, from Dairu
Busumbala when going to the health centre.
“This
is why the community is trying to do everything possible to rehabilitate the
road before the rainy season starts,” the Old Yundum Alkalo said while calling
for support from Brikama Area Council.
The
Alkalo also appealed to other institutions and organisations to come to their
aid to facilitate the rehabilitation of the road for the good of all.
