The Executive Director of the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS), Mr. Musa Mbye has outlined government commitments in addressing the plight of youths, whom he said, constitute about 47 percent of the population.
Mr. Mbye made this remark in an interview with our reporter at his office in Bakau.
According to Mr. Mbye, the aims of the NYSS are to encourage, develop and promote national unity among the youths.
Mr. Mbye said the NYSS Act of 1999 is aimed among other things, to inculcate discipline by instilling industrial tradition at work places and be patriotic, and to boost the moral of the youths by giving them the opportunity to learn skills of all trade.
He said if the youths take up skills acquisition with seriousness, it would enable them to secure employment in both formal and informal sector of the economy.
