Twelve supporters of the opposition National Reconciliation Party (NRP) were yesterday granted bail in the sum of D800 each after they appeared before a magistrate court in Bansang in the Central River Region on charges of going armed in public.

The 12, among them Mr Dulo Bah, one-time campaign manager of the NRP party, were arrested shortly after the 29th March parliamentary polls, swept by the ruling APRC party, and charged with two counts of inciting violence and going armed in public.

However, the charge relating to inciting violence was withdrawn at yesterday’s court hearing.

They are due to appear in court again on 20th May 2012.

Meanwhile, this paper has gathered that 33 supporters of the NRP party who were also arrested and charged in Farafenni also appeared at the magistrates’ court in Farafenni yesterday.

Out of the 33, all except one were granted bail in the sum of D500 and are due to appear in court again on 30th April 2012.

Meanwhile, one Ousman Touray, the NRP candidate in Sabach Sanjal constituency in the just concluded parliamentary polls, was reportedly denied bail.

The accused persons were reportedly picked up at Sabach Njaien village in the Sabach Sanjal District of the North Bank Region.
