Nine men given two-year suspended sentence

Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on 25 July 2011 handed down a two-year suspended sentence to nine men for entry and residence in The Gambia without a passport or permit.

The sentence followed their plea of guilt.

Lawyer Moses Richards, who voluntarily mitigated on their behalf, told the court that the convicts were honorable to accept their criminal responsibility.

He begged the court to temper justice with mercy.

This development followed the reading of the facts by police Inspector Singhateh.

Magistrate Tabally also ordered their deportation.

According to the charge sheet, Omar Saine, Musa Samateh, Alieu Bah, Alpha Barry, Ebrima Baldeh, Babucarr Barry, Bulus Mendy, Jambu Manneh and Gibriel Ceesay, on 8 July 2011 at Manjai, Dippa Kunda and Serrekunda area, in the Kanifing Municipality, without authority or lawful excuse entered The Gambia without a passport, permit or any other document to show their identity.
