The library, sponsored by a friend of the school -
Speaking at the handing over ceremony of the library, the headmistress of the school, Mary Anne Joof, thanked the donors for the invaluable support they have rendered to the school.
The library will enhance learning in the school, Mrs Joof says. “This kind of interventions would no doubt complement President Jammeh’s effort in attaining Vision 2020,” she added.
She also commended the donors for their contribution towards improving the education sector, saying: “We are grateful as this will go a long way in developing the culture of reading among our children.”
Mrs Joof said she would like the link between the two schools to go from strength to strength.
Representing the regional education director at the ceremony, Saihou Jagne said the establishment of the library “is timely”.
“This intervention is timely because it has come at a time when the ministry has pumped a lot of resources in developing the early grade reading ability system in schools to improve the reading skills of children,” Mr Jagne said.
This library should not be seen as a bookstore but a learning resource centre to both the students and teachers, he says, adding that when it is fully utilised the library will be helpful to both teachers and students.

A senior teacher at the school, Tijan Ceesay, said he was delighted about the establishment of the library and described the donors as “real development partners”.
The deputy headmistress of the school, Sainabou Jobe, in her vote of thanks, heaped praises on the donors for their support to the school.
Mrs Jobe appealed to them and both schools to maintain link for the development of education.
