Abdoulie Hydara, accompanied by senior officials of GTBoard, said his responsibilities as the new director general include conducting a tour of the TDA to have firsthand information about the legality of the structures.
The visit also enabled Mr Hydara to know the present condition of some of the beaches within the TDA to work out a way of managing them.
The GTBoard director general made it clear that the beaches are not only for tourists but also for Gambians.
Fatou Beyai, director of product development at GTBoard, said it is very disappointing to see that “some structures are erected within the TDA illegally”.
She warned defaulters, saying that something would be done about the illegal structures.
Mrs Beyai also warned people to stop throwing or dumping waste materials at the beaches. They should always keep the beaches clean, she added.
Abdoulie Bah, director of Quality Control Unit at GTBoard, and Captain Yankuba Manneh, Commander of Tourism Security Unit, also spoke on the tour.
