Nephew in Court for Allegedly Threatening Violence

One Ebou Sibi Faal of Wellingara Village recently appeared before Magistrate Fred Foster of the Brikama Magistrates' Court, charged with threatening violence, contrary to the Laws of The Gambia.

According to the charge sheet, on 7th August 2009, at Wellingara Village, the accused, Ebou Sibi Faal, threatened one Abdul Aziz Jeng.

He vehemently denied the charge.

Testifying before the court, the prosecution's first witness, Alh Abdul Aziz Jeng, told the court that the accused is his nephew and lives in his (Mr Jeng's) compound.

Mr. Jeng said on 7th August 2009, while he was in Banjul for a weekend, his mother, who is 80 years old, called him and told him that the accused had forcefully entered her room and threatened her and all the family members in the compound.

The prosecution's witness told the court that the accused on many occasions has threatened his family members.

He told the court that when he came back from Banjul, he found the accused in the compound, and thereafter reported the matter to the Wellingara Police Station. Subsequently, the police arrested the accused.

However, the accused was later granted a court bail in the sum of D5,000, with a Gambian surety.

The case was adjourned to 20th August 2009.
