Nawetaan up-date

London United on Sunday 8th August 2010 recovered from their disappointing 6-0 defeat in the hands of Ball Conge FC in their opening game of the championship to beat Old Hands FC by 2-1 in the Serrekunda East Sports Development Organisation (SESDO) Nawetaan proper, at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium in the 5pm encounter.

London United goals were scored by Abdou Mansally and Omar Jallow in the 20th and 75th minutes, while Old Hands FC consolation goal was scored by former International Scorpions defender Kemo Ceesay in the 25th minute of the game.

Earlier on the same day, in the 3pm kick-off at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium, S.V. Laar FC drew 1-1 with Safira FC.

On the same day, at the Ndofan football field in Lower Niumi District, North Bank Region, Wellingara FC defeated Kerr Mbugma FC 3-1 in the senior category of the Ndofan Sports Committee Nawetaan Championship.

Earlier on Saturday, 7th August 2010 in the opening game of the tournament, Vitalait FC of Ndofan Village won Chamen FC 4-3 to register their first victory in the ten- team competition.

 Commit FC thrashed Qcell FC 2-0 to register their first victory in the 2010-11 Gunjur Nawettan at the Gunjur Football Pitch over the weekend.

In the 20th minute, Commit FC.striker Dodou Saine scored their first goal after slashing through Qcell FC defence.

Sulayman Bojang sealed the victory in the 70th minute of the game.

On Saturday, New Town FC defeated NAS FC 2-1, while Kulukochi United drew 1-1 with Jannehkoto FC on Sunday.

The last year’s double winners in Bakau Nawetaan Ron Mango will later in the day begin the defence of their title as they looks set to entertain the newly promoted side Zuwa FC in the opening game of the summer championship in Bakau.

Ron Mango whose hope of winning the super cup final was dented after they succumbed to an extraordinary 10-9 penalty shoot out defeat to Vidar on Saturday will once again be looking forward to add another league title to its name following similar successes in the last two seasons.

Zuwa FC who are set to make their first appearance in Bakau Nawetaan are hugely tipped to make an impact after an impressive performances in the qualifiers seeing them beat experience Magadan to book their place in this year’s summer championship. And if their fantastic qualifying round performances are anything to go by, one could still be optimistic of a successful campaign for the young lads.

Meanwhile, Wednesday's match will feature Bantankoto and the Bakau New Town outfit Unique FC who are desperate to put an end to their nine year trophy draught.

Katchically United will entertain Bremen in what could prove to be a mouth-watering encounter on Thursday, to be followed by Mamakoto’s game with Kids with Talents Radio station (KWT) on Friday, at the Bakau Mini-stadium.

Old Jeshwang Super Cup is scheduled on Friday 13th August 2010 between 2009 Nawetaan Season champions NPE FC and runners-up Wu-tang FC, at the Old Jeshwang Primary School Field.

Both teams who performed incredibly well during the 2009 Nawetaan season will have to meet once again for a great battle for supremacy and with NPE FC as favorites after thrashing Wu-tang FC by two goals to nil during the finals of the last year’s Nawetaan season. But Wu-tang FC could surprise everyone because they have so far prepared for this cracker, to be followed by the Super Cup finals, and the annual Old Jeshwang Nawetaan, which will commence on Sunday 15th August 2010. 

Greenhouse FC on Sunday 8th August 2010 suffered another setback after losing by a goal to nil in the hands of Firehouse FC at the Gambia Senior Secondary School field in the 5pm encounter. Both teams opened the game with good performances, and thus, created a lot of goal opportunities but failed to capitalise on them.

In the 26 minute of play in the first period, Firehouse FC Modou Sarr scored the only goal of the match to give his side the lead. During the second period of the game, Greenhouse FC, who lost their previous game to Ajax FC by a goal to nil also came up with numerous goal attempts, but failed to hit the main target.

 Later on both teams equally controlled the ball possession, but the game ended 1-0 in favour of Firehouse FC.
