Youth and Sports deputy director Sutay Jawo Wednesday presided over the inauguration of the new executive of the Gambia National Scout Council at a colourful ceremony held at the Kanifing Municipal Council's conference hall.
In his statement on the occasion, Mr Jawo said that despite the problems the National Scout Council (NSC) experienced in the past they were able to live up to expectations.
He advised the new executive members to respect one another and to always work towards the development of the council to empower young people in the country.
The Deputy Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council, Yusupha Sanyang, told the new executives to be determined and hardworking to be able to realise their aspirations.
He assured them of his municipality’s readiness to always support the NSC and also advised them to show "respect and understanding" among themselves so they can attain their dreams.
The president of the NSC, Aja Kassa Kanteh Sanneh, urged her executive members to be committed and determined to take the affairs of the council to higher heights and to also respect one another for the betterment of the council.
She hailed Kanifing Municipality for its invaluable support to the NSC, while calling on the new executive members to live up to their task.
For his part, Ousman Badjie, an international commissioner of scout, said since scouting started in 1921 they (the scouting fraternity) have been partners in promoting education around the world.
"We accept everybody regardless of different cultural backgrounds," Mr Badjie said, adding that the function of the council is paramount therefore they would want the executive to work hard to promote the affairs of the NSC.
The Chief Scout Commissioner in The Gambia, Pa Omar Bojang, chaired the occasion.
