National Association of Nigerian Students (NANs), Gambia chapter, was recently launched at Girl’s Guide Vocational Centre in Kanifing, after the election of new executives to steer the affairs of the association.
Asiwaju Bashir Toyin Ojikutu, vice chairperson of the Nigerian community in The Gambia, urged the student body to live up to expectations in the interest of the association.
He advised them to be law-abiding and to raise the flag of their nations.
Hyacinth Iekulide, President of NANs, said the association was meant to champion the welfare of the Nigerian students and to promote unity among Nigerian students across the globe.
He said the giant strides taken by the Nigerian government and its international intervention have given them hope and faith for a future without fear of chaos caused by nonconforming attitude.
He said they must focus on values, productivity and capacity building that would place them on the international arena.
“I have not forgotten the content of my manifesto and the faith you have in me to serve you and promote the unity, excellent capacity building and the sense of patriotism among Nigerian students,” he said.
He urged all the members to give the new executive the required support to achieve their goals.
