Mustapha Jarju’s Mons have kick-started what looks like a successful promotion play-off campaign for the Belgian first division next season.
The Second Division outfit have had a good finish in the 2010/11 outing by finishing 3rd with 59 points credit to Gambia international Jarjue who recorded 18 goals in his name during the season to earn a place in the play-offs which kicked off recently.
Mons opened their play-off campaign with a 2-2 draw fellow contenders Waasland-Beveren before beating Lommel United 5-1 and 3–1 against AS Eupen to stay top of the four-team promotional play-off with 7 points.
Mons will play away to AS Eupen on Thursday in the second round of the play-offs. They will then take on closest opponents Waasland-Beveren who are also standing on 7 points on Sunday 22 May before playing hosts to Lommel United on Thursday 26 May to wrap up the qualifiers.
Thursday’s match will be a decider for the Mons, as a win will help them move to stay ahead of the provisional standings as potential leaders Lommel United are also waiting on for grips at the slightest chance.
OH Leuven gained promotion to the first division after topping the table on 73 points.
Lommel United completed on 2nd with 65 points and Waasland-Beveren came out 4th in the Belgian second division.
