Mobile phone thief convicted

A man called Lamin Keita was Thursday convicted and sentenced to a fine of D5,000, in default to serve one year in prison.

Lamin Keita admitted the charge of stealing from a dwelling house when he was arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Jagne.

The particulars of offence stated that the convict, Lamin Keita, on 26 December 2013, at Lamin village, entered into the dwelling house of one Aminata Sillah and stole one black Samsung phone valued at D3,000, being the property of Aminata Sillah.

According to the facts of the case, it happened on 26 December 2013, when the complainant was sleeping and her brother, Adama Sillah, heard a noise in her sister’s bedroom, and saw the accused going through the back door.

Adama was able to catch him and shouted for help. The neighbours came and apprehended the accused.

The complainant then said she lost her phone and the accused was searched and a black Samsung phone was found on him, which the complainant confirmed to be hers.

The accused, together with the phone, was taken to Banjulinding Police Station.
