The Ministry of Youth and Sports National Bill, which wanted sports journalists to undergo a licensing programme, has revoked its decision following a strong fight put up by the Sports Journalist Association of the Gambia (SJAG) representatives at the validation of the bill held on Monday at the Independence Stadium Friendship Hostel, Sainabou Kujabi-Njie, SJAG president, wrote on the association Facebook page.
The full text posted on the SJAG page on Wednesday reads: “The Ministry of Youth and Sports National Sports Bill, which wanted sports journalists to undergo a licensing programme has been revoked following a strong fight put up by the SJAG representatives at the validation of the bill on Monday.
The minister has agreed to leave out the clauses that delved on the periodic license programme they wanted to initiate for every Gambian journalist that covers sports.
"SJAG and GPU have been tasked to handle matters regarding the issue of professionalism of practising sports journalists in the country...”
