Manjai on Saturday beat Brufut 3-0 in group A game played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda to advance to the quarterfinal in the 2014 Super Nawettan zonal football championship.
The victory has earned Father Gough Sports Complex boys the vital three points and also a place in the quarterfinal after snatching third place in group A with 8 points in five games.
The defeat saw Brufut out of the super nawettan zonal football championship after finishing second from bottom in group A with 5 points in five outings and will now hang their boots till next year.
City boys Banjul defeated whipping boys Serrekunda Central 1-0 at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on the same day to sail to the quarterfinal after securing 9 points in five games.
Bakau came from behind to draw 1-1 with Gunjur in group A clash played at the Father Gough Sports Complex in Manjai Kunda on Saturday.
Saikouba Manndeh gave Gunjur the lead in the 20th minute from the penalty spot after Dawda Sonko handled the ball inside the area to give the South boys the lead.
Bakau levelled the scores through Papa Dodou Darboe in the 23rd minute of the game from a brilliant header from a corner spot to cancel Saikouba Manneh’s 20th minute strike to share the spoils.
Abdoulie Said came very close to scoring the winner for Bakau in the 43rd minute of the game from the penalty spot after Gunjur midfielder Baboucarr Juwara handled the ball inside the area but his shot was saved by Gunjur’s goalkeeper Ousman Darboe before the game ended.
Elsewhere, Sukuta came from one nil down to draw 1-1 with BEM at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on the same day.
