A man accused of obtaining money by false pretence and impersonating was recently arraigned at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.
Yusuf Musa denied the charges and was granted court bail of D50,000 with two Gambian sureties who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
According to the charge sheet on count one, the accused, Yusuf Musa, in 2009, at Pipeline and diverse places in the Kanifing Municipality, with intent to defraud, obtained from one Sehou Babalola $6,000 under the pretext that his late brother, Ayo Babalola, had a son named Emmanuel in The Gambia before his death and was going to use the said money to secure the release of the son from SOS and other expenses, which representation was false and he knew to be false at the time of making such representation.
Count two read that between 2009 and 2010, at Pipeline and diverse places in the Kanifing Municipality, with intent to defraud the complainant, the accused, falsely represented himself to be one Dr Momodou Lamin Dibba of the RVTH and also a police officer in the name of Mustapha Kebbeh to wit sending the picture of the former Inspector General of Police, Benedict Jammeh, as proof of being a police officer.
The case was adjourned till 15 November 2011.
