Man convicted for operating exchange bureau without authority

Magistrate Tabally of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court Monday convicted and sentenced one Abdoulie Jallow to a fine of D10, 000 in default to serve one year in prison with hard labour.

Jallow was convicted after being found liable for operating a foreign exchange bureau without authority.

The fact of the case as narrated before the court stated that it happened on 19 December 2012, when joint operation was conducted by the security personnel to raid illegal vendors dealing in foreign currencies.

During the cause of the raid, the accused was arrested at Serrekunda Bambo, dealing in foreign currencies without lawful authority.

The accused was cautioned and charged with the said offence.

The charge sheet read that on 19 December 2012, at Serrekunda Bambo, in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused, Abdoulie Jallow, was found dealing in foreign currencies without lawful authority.

In a similar development, one Amadou Barry was also convicted and sentenced to a fine of D10, 000 in default to serve one year in prison with hard labour.

Barry was also found liable by the same court for dealing in foreign currencies without authority on the same date and place.
