One Momodou Salieu Jallow, who served as the first prosecution witness (PW1), Monday testified in the case involving one Muhammed Bah, who was accused on a single count of cheating at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Tabally.
Mr Jallow told the court he is a businessman operating Bureau De Change, and he could recognise the accused person.
He recalled 29 November 2012, when the accused came to his Bureau together with someone that they needed an exchange of 1.5 million CFA.
They calculated and came to D99, 300, he said, adding that the accused produced D93, 000 and placed in the counter and was given the 1.5 million CFA, and he disappeared.
Jallow said he used the same number the accused used to call him before coming to call back the accused person to inform him that the money was short of D6, 300, and the accused promised to bring the balance.
He said he later reported the matter to the Serrekunda Police Station, and the accused was later arrested and taken to Serrekunda Police Station.
At the station, he was confronted and he denied the allegation that he did not know him.
Hearing was adjourned until 23 January 2013.
