Magistrate Effirm of the Brikama Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Hamadi Sillah to a fine of D5, 000, in default to serve 12 months in prison for impersonating himself with a Spanish residential permit.

According to the facts as narrated by the prosecutor, it happened on 14th March 2010, at the Banjul International Airport, when the convict, Hamadi Sillah presented a Spanish residential permit at the Spanish desk airline with a serial number E10467540, bearing the name of Ladgie Sillah.

He said the profiling officers at the checking desk discovered that the convict is not the actual owner of that passport, together with the residential permit. Subsequently, he said, he was arrested and taken to the task force office where he was cautioned and charged with the offence committed.

In his plea of mitigation, the convict pleaded to the court to temper justice with mercy, as he is an Arabic school student and is married with a child.
