Mamadou Danso handed red in Timbers weekend stalemate

May 20, 2013, 9:24 AM

Gambia and Portland Timbers defender Mamadou Futty Danso was red carded in Saturday’s MLS 2-2 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps.

Danso was said to have received his marching orders following a race on goal with Camilo. Goal.com stated that Mamadou Danso tangled up with the Brazilian and earned a soft red card.

The numerical disadvantage didn’t prevent Portland from equalizing. Jose Valencia scored his first MLS goal, plucking a Will Johnson chip out of the air, wriggling in the box and finishing sharply.

That 84th minute equalizer came just minutes after Futty Danso’s sending off following a collision with Camilo.

Danso was the last man back on the play, meaning referee Matthew Forster had to bring out the red if he thought a foul took place.
