Malian national convicted

Bubacarr Konneh, a Malian national, was on 24 February 2016 convicted and sentenced to a fine of D5,000 in default to serve one year in prison, for house-breaking, and another fine of D5,000 in default to serve one year in prison, for stealing, by Magistrate Jallow of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

The verdict followed the convict’s plea of guilty.

Both sentences would run concurrently.

The prosecuting officer, Inspector Singhateh, presented a bill of indictment which stated that the convict, Babucarr Konneh, broke into the dwelling house of one Mariatou Faal-Njie with intent to steal, on the night of the 12 February 2016 at Kanifing South in the Kanifing Municipality.

It was further alleged by prosecutors that the convict on the same date and place stole the following items; 205,000 CFA, $105, 750 Nigerian Naira, D1,500, 40 Ghanaian Cedis, 6 Saudi Riyal, 21 Zimbawean dollars, 10 UAE Dirham, five limang peso (51 pieces), 200 Mauritanian Qugiya, 11 pieces Bangladeshi currency, 101 Jamaican dollars, 5 Zambian Kwacha, 1000 Sierra Leonean Leon, 40 Moroccan Dirham, 100 Malian currency, old Gambian dalasi, D16 pieces, D57 pieces.

The total value of the items stolen amounted to D35,000 all the property of Mariatou Faal-Njie.
