The Lower River Region delegation for the National Conference of Youth Festival (Nayconf) is in need of over one hundred thousands dalasis (D100 000) to ensure the effective participation in the biennial event scheduled to take place in Bansang in January next year.

Muhammed Fatty, Lower River Region youth assistant coordinator, told this paper that with just a week to go, the LRR taskforce committee for the event has been able to secure only about D30,000 from a total budget of D134,770.

The youth assistant explained that the LRR delegation for the event has therefore decided not to follow its traditional method of relying entirely on the Mansakonko Local Area Council, which also complains of financial constraints.

“As a result, we tried to mobilise about D30, 000 before the expected intervention of the regional authorities including the Local Area Council,” Fatty said.

The LRR Nayconf delegate is composed of one hundred and sixty participants who will be participating in various events including football, volleyball, basketball, athletics and conference.

This region is known to be gap filler in previous Nayconf competitions with no significant result on its name.

The region however celebrated second position from the quiz competition, and third place in Drama and Masquerade Dance in the 2010 Nayconf.

According to Fatty, his region has employed early preparations to go for better results in the Bansang event.

“We have assigned responsibilities to people who are capable to bring us the result we need,” he said, adding that GFA regional representative Amadou Demba is the lead coach for the LRR football team for the event, which is already on a progressive footing.
