Let’s address soaring ram prices

Nov 11, 2010, 11:03 AM

It is not an exaggeration to say that getting a ram here in The Gambia, ahead of the Tobaski, is increasingly becoming a problem to many income-earners.

Getting rams at cheaper prices has now become a major concern in all corners of our society, especially in current times when the demand is too high.

It has also become a topical issue in all corners of the country.

Concerns have been raised by the public regarding the high cost of rams, both in the Greater Banjul Area and in other parts of the country.

It is now becoming customary for many to travel out of the country to look for a ram, especially in neighbouring Senegal, where it is said to be cheaper than in The Gambia.

There is no denying that this is making life extremely difficult for many, and we are saying something should be done to address what many describe as an unfortunate situation.

Every now and then, we see people travel to the neighbouring countries to buy rams, where they believe it is cheaper. This is creating more hardship for people, as they lose valuable time and resources to undertake such journeys.

We reiterate that every effort should be employed to put a stop to this unfavourable and unfortunate situation, before it becomes a pain in the neck for many who can’t afford it.
