The Kabafita Youth and Children Development Association (KYCDA) recently commemorated its first anniversary, at the office of Samasang Federation in Brikama, featuring young people from different walks of life.
Addressing the audience, the Public Relations Officer of the KYCDA, Mr. Omar Jawara expressed delight at the massive turn out of the youths.
He said the association has since its inception in 2009 made a lot of progresses and successes. He noted that "Success is a journey and not a destination, it is about succeeding in some of the challenges you face that comes on your way."
Highlighting on some of their successes, Juwara said, they were able to make a very good successful congress where they elected a viable and effective executive committee, and were also able to participate in different youth programmes during the past 12 months.
He added that they were also able to organise two successful fundraising activities, to be able to finance their activities and programmes.
For his part, Mr. Ousman Kanteh, the Chairperson of the Children Wing said they have also formed a viable and effective children executive board, with the support of a child focal person.
He said the association also held many sensitisation programmes in schools like Kabafita Lower and Upper Basic Schools, to make them understand the objectives of the association.
Mr. Mustapha Kebbeh, the Youth Agency Co-ordinator at Child Fund The Gambia called on participants to make good use of the opportunities accorded to them. He further challenged them to put into practice what they have learnt during the programme.
"Everybody has dreams and we must all work hard to ensure that our dreams are achieved," he concluded.
