Muhammed Awo, Sheikh Jallow, Sheikh Jarju, Ousman Sowe and Buba Sanneh were on 14 November, 2019, paraded before Magistrate Dunn Njie of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court. They have been charged on two counts of robbery and impersonation.

Sergeant 2717 Jallow, who represented the Inspector General of Police, presented a bill of indictment before the court which indicated that the accused persons jointly attacked one Binta Ceesay and Alagie Jammeh with a knife, robbed them and took a bag containing a mobile phone HTC, valued at D3000, cash of D970, a watch and a US Dollar at Kololi Tavan, in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia on 10 November, 2019.

It was also alleged that they presented themselves to Binta Ceesay and Alagie Jammeh as personnel of the Anti-Crime Unit, which representation they knew to be false at Kololi Tavan on the same day.

Sheikh Jarju, Ousman Sowe and Buba Sanneh pleaded guilty of robbery but Muhammed Awo and Sheikh Jallow did not own up to any responsibility.

All the accused said that they did not represent themselves to Binta Ceesay and Alagie Jammeh as personnel of the Anti-Crime Unit.

Magistrate Dunn Njie subsequently remanded them at Mile 2 Central Prison, and adjourned the case for the prosecuting officer, Sergeant 2717 Jallow, to make a lineup of his witnesses for the commencement of the trial.
