Mr Yankuba Colley, Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), has warned that he will send butchers to Mile 2 if anyone of them fails to comply with President Jammeh's ultimatum to sell a kilo of steak, and a kilo of meat and bone for D80 and D60 respectively.
The Mayor made this statement in the wake of a recent warning by the Gambian leader that any local authority that failed to ensure that meat sold in their region reflected these prices would be dealt with accordingly.
"I will send you to Mile 2 if you fail to comply with the President's ultimatum for the price of meat to go down," Mayor Colley was quoted as saying in an interview with
According to the KMC Mayor, he has already sent a monitoring team to all the markets within the municipality and that they have seen that butchers are complying with the ultimatum given by President Jammeh.
"We will ensure zero tolerance on the butchers in this municipality so as to see to it that they comply with the ultimatum. There will be zero tolerance," he warned.
It will be recalled that President Jammeh recently gave a weeklong ultimatum for the price of meat to be reduced and sold at D80 per kilo of steak and D60 per kilo of meat and bone, a topic that has caused mixed reactions among the general public, especially butchers.
