Junior Cricket Tourney Final Today

St Joseph and Rev JC Faye, are the two teams that are lining up for the much-anticipated second cricket primary school final, slated for today Friday July 10th 2009, at the July 22nd Square in Banjul.

The tournament is part of efforts to recruit young talented players for the Gambia Cricket Association, the annual primary school knock-out cricket competition which is currently in session at the July 22nd square.

Wilfred Riley, the Administrative Secretary of the Gambia Cricket Association told Pointsport that 6 out of  8 teams are currently participating in the tournament. The teams namely; Wesley, Methodist, Campama, St Joseph, July 22nd Youth, Albion, St Mary'sand JC Fayeare taking part inthe three week knock-outtournament for primary schools in Banjul.

St Joseph's are the defending champions of last year's championship after defeating Albion at the July 22nd Square.

The championship is a feeder to the Gambia U-13 Cricket Team.

Last year, 13 players from the tournament were selected within Banjul by the Gambia Cricket Association to represent the country in the U-13 North West African Cricket Championship in Ghana last April. The team came out with a respectable performance, after finishing third out of six participating teams from North West Africa, which included Nigeria, Cameroon and Mali who were supposed to make it six, failed to turned up.
