Imam Pa Momodou Njie presenting his letters of credence to His Majesty the Emir of Qatar as The Gambia’s pioneer Ambassador to Qatar. He facilitated the first visit of the Emir of Qatar to The Gambia.

Imam Ambassador Pa Momodou Njie was an exemplary person of distinction. He was inspired by Imam Ambassador Professor Omar Jah , under whom he served as Counselor at The Gambia Embassy in Saudi Arabia and believed that one can combine the temporal and spiritual and be the best at both. He equally inspired Imam Ambassador Basir Drammeh to excel to also become an Imam and Ambassador when Imam Pa Momodou Njie identified him to join the diplomatic service and subsequently he also became The Gambia’s Ambassador to Qatar . He is currently Imam of Latrikunda Mosque.

Imam Pa Momodou Njie of blessed memory served The Gambia as a patriotic Gambian of distinction underpinned by conscience, character , competence, courage and conviction. He was The Gambia’s High Commissioner ( Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the sister Republic of Senegal. He was indeed the architect that enabled the newly democratically elected President Adama Barrow to be sworn at The Gambia Embassy in Dakar against all the odds. He assured President Barrow’s sojourn in Dakar out of courage and conviction to his conscience and did the right thing, I always posit that “ what is right is not expedient and what is expedient is not right- therefore always do what is RIGHT “ Imam Ambassador alongside some of his serving Ambassadors at the material time signed a open petition asking the then President to respect the will of the people and yield power to the newly elected President.

Please remember this saviour and game changer of The Gambia in your prayers.

It may be worthy to mention that he was First Secretary at The Gambia High Commission in Senegal in 1981 and also played a role in restoring the rule of Alhaji Sir Dawda Jawara, when The Gambia invoked the defense pact with Senegal and the coup d etat was foiled.

I’m reminded of the words of the late and revered Labour Union activist and educationist A E Cham Joof “ History cannot proceed by in silence “

Please remember Imam Ambassador Pa Momodou Njie in your prayers.
