Jammeh condemns arrogance in office

Jul 4, 2014, 10:31 AM

President Yahya Jammeh Thursday condemned cabinet ministers who show arrogance in office, even to their cabinet colleagues; who make themselves unapproachable, even to the extent of deciding when to be approached.

The President warned that people like that have no place in his government, since “nobody can be more President than the President himself” (that is, the tendency to be more Catholic than the Pope himself) and that cabinet ministers must comport themselves as “servants of the people”.

He was speaking at State House Thursday, when he presided over the swearing in of the new minister for Presidential Affairs, Abdoulie Sallah, the new minister of Trade, Abdou Jobe, and the new secretary to the cabinet, Nuha Touray.

Meanwhile, GRTS television last evening also announced that President Jammeh, acting in his capacity as party leader of the ruling APRC, has removed Momodou Sabally as APRC secretary-general and replaced him with Bala Garba Jahumpa.

Jahumpa is henceforth APRC secretary-general, and will be assisted by Fatou Lamin Faye as deputy secretary-general of the country’s ruling party.
