Investigation report tendered in Dr Gumbo Touray case

The investigation report that was prepared after the investigation of the allegation made by Dr Gumbo Touray against Professor Kah, Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia, was yesterday tendered at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Tabally.

Dr Gumbo Touray, Director of International Affairs at the University of The Gambia, is on trial for allegedly giving false information to a public officer.

Testifying under cross-examination, Lamin J. Gassama, a narcotics officer, told the court that a comprehensive draft report was prepared with regard to the allegation before the court.

He added that the investigation was commissioned by the Office of the President to look into the allegation against Professor Kah by Dr Gumbo Touray.

 At that juncture, defence counsel Pap Cheyassin Secka applied to tender the investigation report that was admitted and marked as defence exhibit without any objection from the prosecutor.

The witness explained that most of the appointments of the various individual to the senior cadre of the University of The Gambia were single-handedly done by Professor Kah, without going through the prescribed procedures.

 “The investigation report further revealed that most of the beneficiaries at the University of The Gambia are either the friends or the relatives of Professor Kah,” the witness added.

He further adduced that 37 people were interviewed about the issue, and all the issues raised were investigated, adding that the investigation revealed that the allegations advanced by Dr Gumbo Touray were true, and not false.     The case was at that juncture adjourned till 7 September 2011.
