Impersonator convicted

Principal Magistrate Effirm of the Brikama Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Modou Lamin Jatta to a fine of D5, 000 in default to serve one year in prison for impersonation.

According to the facts, as narrated by the police prosecutor, Sub-Inspector Camara, it happened on 1st June 2010 at Banjul International Airport, when the accused presented to the Spain Airline a Gambia passport bearing the name of one Narudeen Bah for him to travel.

He narrated that during the process, the officer discovered that the passport the accused presented was not his passport and, subsequently, he was arrested and handed over to the security task force, cautioned and charged with the offence committed.

The convicted person begged the court to temper justice with mercy, adding that he has regretted what he has done. He said he has been trying several times to travel to Europe, but to no avail. He also begged the court to return the passport to the owner.
