The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will this weekend conduct a correction voter registration exercise at the Dippakunda mosque registration centre, a statement from the Commission said yesterday.
This development, according to the Commission, came as a result of the fact that the laptop got stolen, which the registration team assigned at the said area was using to register claimants.
The Commission said prior to this unfortunate event, the senior registration officer for that area had already exported the information for that week (19th to 25th May) to a USB flash drive.
However, the commission added, it has been found that the data has been corrupted and the laptop has not yet been found.
“Consequently, according to consensus reached between political parties and the IEC in accordance with Section 19 subsection (6) of the Elections Act, the IEC will conduct a correction exercise on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July 2011 at the Dippakunda mosque registration centre commencing at 9 am daily,” the statement said.
The IEC urged all affected persons to come with their voter’s card.
