IEC chairman begins nationwide tour today

The Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, Alhagie Mustapha L. Carayol, will today embark on a week-long nationwide sensitization tour ahead of scheduled presidential election next month.

During the tour, according to a statement from the IEC, Chairman Carayol will hold meetings with mayors and the council of elders in Banjul and Kanifing Municipalities and the Governors and district chiefs in all the regions in the country.

Noting that very important issues pertaining the forthcoming presidential election will be discussed, the IEC said this is part of efforts to level the playing field for all stakeholders in the electoral process.

The tour will start with meetings with the Mayor of Banjul and the Council of Elders of Banjul today and another with the Mayor of the Kanifing Municipality and Council of Elders in the municipality on Tuesday.

This will be followed by similar meetings in other regions.
