Three count-charges of stealing have been preferred against Hon. Seedy S.K. Njie, a nominated Member of the National Assembly.
He was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Hilary U. Abeke of the
Hon. Seedy SK Njie pleaded not guilty to all the counts, and was granted a court bail in the sum of D500, 000, with two Gambian sureties, all of whom must have landed properties within the jurisdiction of the court.
According to the particulars of offence on count one, Hon. Seedy S.K. Njie in the month of March 2009 in the Kanifing Municipality, acting in the capacity of Deputy Coordinator of the National Patriotic Students Association (NAPSA) with intent to defraud stole an amount of D28, 000, being money for the payment of NAPSA congress members’ accommodation at NYSS.
Count two stated that in the year 2009 in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused Hon. Seedy Njie stole D18, 000, being money for the hiring of the NAPSA mini-bus to
Count three stated that in the year 2009, in the Kanifing Municipality, with intent to defraud, the accused Hon. Seedy Njie stole D10, 000 from the proceeds of hiring the NAPSA mini-bus to Kaolock.
Hon. Seedy Njie when he appeared in court yesterday told the magistrate that he wanted to engage the services of a lawyer before the next adjournment date.
He appealed to the court to give him more time to enable him look for the services of a counsel.
Magistrate Hilary told him that the court cannot adjourn the case for a long time without proceeding.
However, he said the court would consider adjourning the case until the accused person gets a lawyer.
The case was subsequently adjourned to 16th August 2010 for hearing.
