Holiday Maker Dies At Sea

Information reaching this paper has it that a British national who was on holidays in The Gambia, died at sea, during the weekend, Steven Tucker died whilst his friend, one J. Stirland, survived. They were reportedly rescued and Mr. Tucker was rushed to the Lamtoro Clinic where he was clinically pronounced dead.

The body of Mr Tucker was said to have been flown back to UK on Wednesday.

According to an eyewitness account, Steven Tucker went fishing with his friend last Saturday when their boat capsized.

Sources reveal that the two friends were in a boat with two Gambians when their boat capsized. They were said to have been rescued by one Bafoday Jammeh, a lifeguard at the Kairaba Hotel, who spotted the capsized boat some 100 to 150 meters from the beach.

The two friends together with their wives were said to be lodging at Holiday Beach Club Hotel in the vicinity of Kairaba Beach Hotel.

According to Mbye Njie, Manager, Holiday Beach Club Hotel, the two friends arrived in The Gambia on the 4th of February 2009. He said that on Saturday 6th February they went to sea, un-beknowing to the hotel, leaving their wives behind, at a time the sea was very rough. He said even the red flags were displayed to indicate the sea was not friendly.

Mr. Njie praised Bafoday Jammeh describing him as very hard working and brave. He revealed that his hotel was even honouring Bafoday Jammeh with a 'certificate of appreciation and merit'.
