HG-Gambia Limited, in collaboration with its stakeholders, is set to hold beach cleansing exercise on Saturday 20 September from the Banjul Ferry Terminal to Brufut-Ghana Town geared towards ensuring cleanliness of the beaches.
This development was revealed during HG-Gambia’s stakeholders’ meeting held over the weekend at its premises on Bertil Harding Highway in Kotu.
Over three thousand people from Banjul City Council, Kanifing Municipal Council and Brikama Area Council are expected to participate in the exercise, according to officials.
In a brief interview with The Point after the meeting, HG-Gambia CEO, Habib L.B. Gitteh, pointed out that as a health and safety institution, they always look at engaging their stakeholders to conduct cleansing exercises along the beaches.
“Tourism is contributing immensely to the economic development of The Gambia; as a health and safety company, we feel that it is necessary to push moral at the tourism industry,” he said.
He advised that when people have picnics and other functions at the beaches, they should clean the used areas before leaving.
Tourism Board representative Sang Sylva thanked HG-Gambia Ltd for contributing their quota to the development of the nation, while he described the significance of the exercise as the winter season approaches.
He added that GTBoard would be contributing to the exercise both financially and through man power by informing stakeholders of the hotel industry to partake in the exercise.
Banjul City Council public relations officer Sandigie Njie highlighted the present condition of the beaches as “unimpressive” as far as waste is concerned.
He further revealed that the exercise is a mandate as a municipality in societal delivery, adding that BCC recently partnered with UNESCO Gambia office in conducting a cleansing exercise.
