He Blindfold

We are blindfolded when we are unable to see our way clear. Very often an invisible bandage has been wrapped around our eyes. Blindfolds are deliberate and conscious moves intended to prevent someone from seeing the pitfalls, sometimes landmines, ahead. Someone somewhere is bent on depriving you of your destiny and due. Sadly enough, whether blindfolded knowingly or unknowingly, we end up in the ditch intended for us; and it is nothing but regrets and remorse. To those whose attention has been drawn to this potential danger only a rapid and timely U-turn can save the situation.

The world system is misleading us to believe that life is just a commodity of little or no value. We treat it anyhow. We kill, we maim and debase this life that God has given us. Our lives have been given to us for a purpose otherwise life will be nonsensical and void of meaning. We have one life to live and it should be God-centred. Our daily endeavours should be geared towards working out God’s purpose in this short span of life rather than seeking to accomplish our own private agendas. Blindfolded, we lose focus. We end up pinned down by matters of little relevance to God’s kingdom on earth.

Once we are aware of the blindfold, then it is time to seek help for it to be lifted. We cannot live our whole lives under a cloud. But you ask the question how do we go about this? First, we must desire to know the truth. “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32) Jesus was pointing to himself as the truth. Only the Truth (Jesus), can set you free. Truth is a person. “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17) It follows that the more we lean on Jesus and his word the further removed we would be from being deceived or misled.

Christians must be selective in the television programmes they watch by way of entertainment. Examined closely, most films flout God’s rules for living. They feature nothing but scenes of adultery, acts of violence, killings, thefts and robberies all of which are an abomination to God. At worst, they teach us how to steal somebody’s husband or wife; how to cheat and kill or lie with impunity. The sad bit is that what God abhors becomes standard entertainment for us.

All this is happening in our homes; therefore we must be on our guard. Like in the case of Adam and Eve, Satan is saying it is okay to act contrary to God’s word. We must watch it! The devil is crafty and in his bag he has a lot of arrows to throw at us. He is never tired. He is at it noon, day and night. Remember his mission is “to steal and kill and destroy.” (John 10:10)

Whilst it may look like entertainment, we are putting our households at risk; for not only would our children consider such behaviour to be the norm but it becomes admissible to the extent that we no longer can measure its negative impact on our lifestyles. We may not be a match for Satan and his cohorts but we have a Saviour who has conquered him on the cross, brought him literally to naught.

Television is a formidable propaganda instrument in the hands of Satan capable of thwarting our thinking and is enough to lure the simple-minded into believing everything it professes. “...guard your heart for it is the wellsprings of life.” (Proverbs 4:23) The more we allow ourselves to be carried away by such beliefs and practices the more we will be engrossed in wrong thinking and doing. The increase in violence and rampant killings make human life seem so cheap. And yet again it is scenes like these that catch our attention on prime time television-viewing. God, the Creator of humanity, values life. Satan on the other hand has no regard for life and therefore can put no value on it.

Blindfolding human beings is one of Satan’s ongoing activities which is unlikely to cease overnight because it is key to his deception schemes. Until we increase our awareness of its inherent dangers can we be set free. The entertainment world is openly making mockery of God’s laws, precept and principles and making it seem like child’s play. Hours spent under such influence swallowing his propaganda wholesale will only leave us at his mercy. Whatever form it takes, Satan, the prince of this world, is at the helm of each blindfold.
