Gambia
Volleyball Federation is preparing to organize the second edition of the Beach
Volleyball National Championship.
The
games, which will be played near Pocoloco Night Club, will kick-start on Friday
30 December 2016.
Nine
teams, namely Gamtel/Gamcel, Brikama, Serekunda East, GAF, Interior, Fire
Services, Banjul Academy, YMCA and Kotu, will participate in the championship.
Speaking
exclusively ahead of the tournament, the Federation’s acting president with
delight stated the readiness of the body to take another historic breakthrough
in Gambia sport.
“Beach
volleyball is an integral development programme for the FIVB and CAVB;
therefore we are so much glad to promote the game in The Gambia,” Bai Dodou
Jallow said.
Beach
volleyball is a game that can be played even in an open ground and is a
spectator sport, GVBF auditor Alagie Ceesay opined.
“We
need support from all sectors to come on board and support the Federation,” he
added.
The
Executive is also urging stakeholders and companies to support volleyball,
which, he said, would go a long way in helping out the sport.
GAF
women and Jeshwang men volleyball teams are the defending national champions.
