Gunjur zonal team under the guidance of the head coach, Lamin Kaku Jabang, will start this intensive training with 36 players, and will use the training to scout a formidable 25-man squad that will represent the town in the upcoming Skye Bank Limited-sponsored Super nawettan zonal competition, expected to kick off later this year.
Coach Jabang guided Gunjur zonal team to the 2008 Super Nawetan semi-finals, and lost to Banjul in penalties after a goalless draw in regulation time at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.
Gunjur, which performed woefully in last year’s super nawettan zonalfootball competition, are also planning to play a test game against Brikama United on Saturday 2nd November 2013, at the Gunjur Nyamina FootballFieldto prepare physical, morally and mentally in order to raise funds for the team’s participation in the zonal championship.
Gunjur has never won the super nawettan title since it started in the 1990s, and their best performance in the super nawettan was in 2003, 2006 and 2008 when they lost to Bakau, Serrekunda East and Banjul in the semi finals.
