Gunjur
on Sunday thumped Bakau 2-0 in the group B fixtures played at the Serrekunda
West Mini Stadium to sail to the quarterfinal of the 2016 FiBank-sponsored
Super Nawettan zonal football tournament.
Gunjur
lost to Banjul 1-0 in their group B on Friday at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium
prior to their Sunday’s clash with Bakau.
Bakau
drew goalless with Serrekunda East in their group B tie against Serrekunda East
played on Friday at the Serrekunda East before their crunch clash with Gunjur.
Both
sides made a promising start to the game and threatened at each other’s goal
mouth but the first half failed to produce a winner.
Upon
resumption of the game, Gunjur dominated the game and created numerous
goal-scoring opportunities.
Gunjur
opened the scores through midfielder Mbemba Fatty alias Andre Iniesta in the
52nd minute of the game to send Gunjur fans to jubilation at the Serrekunda
West Mini Stadium after deadlock in the first half.
Striker
Lamin Jallow aka Sako sealed victory for Gunjur in the dying minute of the game
to advance to the quarterfinal in the ongoing FiBank-sponsored Super Nawettan
zonal football tournament.
Bakau
finished the game with ten men after Modou Njie was sent off in the closing
stage for receiving second yellow card.
Banjul
drew goalless with Sukuta at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium, while Serrekunda East
came from one nil down to draw 1-1 with Brufut in the other group B tie played
at the Serrekunda West Mini Stadium on the same day.
Gunjur
are leading group B with 7 points in four games, Serrekunda East are second
with 6 points in four games and Banjul are third with 6 points in four games.
Sukuta
are fourth with 5 points in four games, Brufut are second place from bottom
with 3 points in four games and Bakau are rooted at the bottom with 2 points in
