Gunjur
United beat Greater Tomorrow 1-0 in the 2016-2017 West Coast Regional third
division league final game played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadiumon
Saturday to gain promotion to The Gambia Football Federation division league
next season.
The
Gunjur-based outfit finished top in group A and the Brikama-based outfit also
finished in the top spot in group B and were also unbeaten prior to Saturday’s
final.
The final game was not an easy road as both
sides played offensive and defensive football but the first half failed to
produce a goal.
Upon
the resumption of the game, Gunjur United dominated and created some goal
scoring opportunities.
Gunjur
United opened the score through striker Malang Jassey, alias Uncle, mid-way
into the second half.The goal eventually proved to be the winner and sent the
Gunjur-based outfit to the country’s second tier.
Greater
Tomorrow fought-back for an equalizer and created some clinical goal scoring
opportunities but blasted their limited opportunities awayand the game ended
1-0 in favour of Gunjur United.
As
the champions of the 2016-2017 West Coast Regional third division league,
Gunjur United went home with a giant trophy and cash prize of D25,000, while
Greater Tomorrow received D15,000 as the runner-up.
The
Brikama-based outfit now play against teams from Banjul and Kanifing
Municipality in the play-off after losing to Gunjur United at the weekend.
