Gunjur
zonal team yesterday started intensive training for the 2016 Super Nawettan
zonal football championship set for 8 October 2016.
As
part of their preparations for the country’s biggest community football
jamboree, Gunjur zonal team, under the guidance of coach Bubacarr Kakai Bojang,
will train at the beach in the next four days to keep themselves fit before
start of the competition.
Ebrima
Jammeh alias Fabou, the president of Gunjur zonal team, said their target this
year is to win the super nawettan, adding that they have evaluated the team’s
performance in the championship and identified those problems.
Jammeh
revealed that thirty years on Gunjur were unable to win a trophy since
clinching Kombo South district football tournament trophy in 1986. They want to
make sure Gunjur win their first-ever super nawetan, he said.
Jammeh
further revealed that the super nawettan started in 1993, with eight zones and
all of them won the super nawettan expect Gunjur.
Jammeh
called for togetherness among the players, which will enable them to realize
their dreams of clinching their first-ever super nawettan title.
He
said Gunjur have the players that can win the super nawettan. He also appealed
to the players to put their team sentiments aside and play for Gunjur.
Jammeh
advised players to exercise patience and discipline, saying that without
patience and discipline it would be difficult for Gunjur to win the super
nawettan.
Adama
Jobe alias Tampeh, a member of the Management Committee of Gunjur zonal team,
urged the players to be committed to their village and put their team
sentiments aside to win the super nawettan.
Jobe
pointed out without commitment it would be very difficult for Gunjur to win the
super nawettan.
Bubacarr
Kakai Bojang, head coach of Gunjur zonal team, said thirty players had been
invited for the trial out of which twenty-five would be selected for the super
nawettan.
Coach
Bojang said they are ready to take on the task to guide Gunjur to the 2016
super nawettan.
The
coach appealed to the players to be regular and punctual at training, saying
selection will be based on player’s performance during training sessions.

Sarr alias Asarr, Jerreh Bojang, Lamin Bojang alias Mountain, Abdoulie S.O.
Jammeh aka Beckham, Musa Ndong aka Fabregas and Malang Jassey aka Uncle, urged
the coaches to select players for their performance, adding that they should
also be watching their opponents to prepare themselves well for their opening
group game.
